Wayfarer’s Chapel was a National Historic Landmark that was dismantled in 2024 due to landslide damage. Designed by architect Lloyd Wright in Rancho Palos Verdes California, it was known as a great work of organic architecture that effortlessly bridged a connection between people and nature.
This is a conceptual installation that would be located in Point Vicente Lighthouse Park in Rancho Palos Verdes; and it aims to re-create the connection between people and nature that was experienced in the original chapel. The installation has three wood structures that feature the same architectural elements seen in the front facade of the chapel. These include the yellow stained glass circle at the center, a leaded glass design, and a geometric silhouette.

In the center is a metal rod with handles and a yellow acrylic circle attached to it with information about the installation and the history of the chapel. The base of the rod is fixed but, the rod itself and acrylic circle can be rotated together using the triangular shaped handle bars. On the wood structures, triangular shapes can be slid up and down giving the user the ability to align these components in coordination with the acrylic circle. The idea is for the user to align all of these components so that the silhouette of the original chapel is re-created. This process can be repeated at any of the three wood structures.
